Rebirth of the MT12.
Once upon a time… That’s how we wanted to start our story, actually we were on the look for bikes and stopped by in a village were they claimed we could find some parts, we did not, but we bought this bike. It was an MT12 – the flagship of the KMZ plant, intended for exports only. It is rare to find early samples of these machines. The job of rebuilding the bike was performed in the small town Belay Tserkov, (direct translation White-wall church), some 100 kilometers from Kiev. The bike was completely disassembled sand blasted, some parts zinced. Engine rebuilt. Painted black, as original, 98% of them were black. We have put heavy duty off-road tiers, knobbies. As the bike has been reassembled and cold brake-in of the engine has been done, it was time to go for a ride. At that moment we have ordered the container to come to Kiev for loading, so, we asked our “intensive care” unit to speed up the process. For three days and three nights the Bike was thundering around Belay Tserkov making a show. The citizens called it the Midnight Demon – we thought it sounds OK and decided not to change the name. When loading the Bike to go to Kiev a grandma stopped and asked were are we taking the Midnight Demon, USA we said, the reply: “oh, that’s good, very far from here…”. Midnight Demon is a singer and a head turner.
